Whip Lash

Do you love country music? Would you like dance to it and get in a great workout? Of course you would and that is why Country Heat was created!ย  Please read below to learn what to expect, what is included, and how the workout is structured! You are going to love it!

O.K. The workout is available! Best Deal Is Below.

FIRST:

  • There is pretty much no chance you will see a video of me doing this workout LOL!! It could be pretty painful to watch me doing any dance moves whatsoever!

SECOND:

  • With that said I am still looking forward to the release of Country Heat and doing a review on it.

This is out of my comfort zone for sure, but all the better to really get my body used to doing things is has not ever done. I think that is really where you change your body, not only physically, but mentally as well.

For me it would be getting lose and nailing some of those dance moves down, and of course mentally because I am sure I would fell a bit more confident knowing I would eventually get the moves down.

What Is It & My Review

  • Fun, challenging for someone like me who doesn’t really have “the moves”, but doable. The great thing is you are going to use all those core muscles that you have never used which really help tighten up and show off those abs! Below are the common questions people have been asking me non stop!
  • I really found myself getting pumped up because of the music and the moves. I have never really been a dancer, but when you feel that groove you know it feels right. So basically when doing this it is not a workout where you are really hurting and just want to get through it. You are having fun, breaking a sweat, burning calories, and bettering your health. It is a win win!

How Long Is The Workout

  • 30 Minutes A Day!

Do I Need To Know How To Dance?

  • It can help, but no you do not. I know I DON’T know how and will still give it a try!

Chris… Does It Work?

Chris-Beasted-Up

That’s me Fit Dad Chris after 2 days of Body Beast!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ JK

At the end of the day it works! In fact pretty much any workout you do is going to work if you do one thing…. DO IT! There is no magic out there. Sure there are plans, routines, and workouts like this that if you follow will get you results. So do yourself a favor. Read the review see what this program is about…. buy it… follow it… get results… look good and most important feel good. Simple as that! Ready?? Good now beast up!

I have jumped into the Body Beast workout many times over the years simply because it does work.

I like to do it a few weeks at a time, because I like to switch it up and go back to some old school weight lifting and give my body a break from training for races etc… “Most reading this would follow the whole program though”

I love how my body reacts to it as well! Think you are in shape? Bust out any of the Beasty workouts and I bet you will be super sore tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜‰

Get-Body-Beast[thrive_icon_box color=’blue’ style=’1′ image=’https://fitdadchris.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/thumbs-up.png’]getbody-beast[/thrive_icon_box]

What Is Body Beast?

  • It is a serious workout that involves lifting weights! I say that because many home workouts are all about cardio and moving around etc…. Sure P90X has weights as well, but Body Beast takes it to the next level in my opinion.
  • This is old school weight lifting at its best.
  • Drop setssuper-setsgiant sets…. need I say more!
  • If you want to pack on some muscle and get lean and hard then the BEAST is for you!

What Equipment Is Needed For Body Beast?

cheat-sheet

Get My Custom Body Beast Cheat Sheet!

  • Dumbbells – “You will want some decent weight variations. I am pretty strong, but I started with 5-25lb adjustable dumbbells and 2 30lb dumbbells. That worked well.” My next purchase are BowFlex 55lb Adjustables… they might seem $$$, but you get a lot of weight variations. I went to walmart and it was about $1 a lb so you save a ton this way. When I get them I will do a review on them! Hey so… it has only been a year lol, but check out my Bowflex 552 SelectTech review that I just posted.
  • Bench – Get a bench if you can otherwise you can use a blow up exercise ball. They do have a guy doing modified moves. Ha actually the one guy is Sean Lowe from the Bachelor. I was wondering where he got so jacked from ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyways the first few times I did the workout I had to follow the modifier and use an exercise ball. Now that I am in my garage gym it is much better with a bench.
  • Pull Up Bar – Again if you can use a real pull up bar then do so and use a pull up assist band if you have too. The first few times I had to use bands which was OK, but of course real pull ups are always better.
  • That is really it… like I said you can follow the modified and get away with just some dumbbells, a stability ball, and some resistance bands.

getbody-beast

What To Expect?

  • SORE!!! – You are going to get sore! I have to say I had not really done any old school lifting in awhile. The first time I did Build-chest/tris I have to say I was sore for days! Also remember my heaviest weights were only 30lbs!!!
  • Go at your own pace and write down the weights you use. Take notes if the weight was too much or too little and adjust the next time around. That is the only way you are going to get stronger and bigger.
  • There is a Build & Bulk phase which you can choose from. Not like it is easy to get all jacked up, but for me at 6’3″ I know I am never going to be huge nor am I looking for that sort of physique. I choose the Build phase which focuses more on getting you I would say in beach shape then huge… In reality you are going to look good doing either and get results.
  • Watch out for LEG DAY! I could not walk for 2 days lol.
  • Also watch out for Sagi Kalev and he jokes and jabs at the guys for being girly men. His accent and funny way of saying things is pretty funny!!

Why I Am Doing Body Beast?

  • I tend to be all over with my workouts some times. Since I am gearing up for some obstacle races, triathlons, and whatever else comes my way I like to really mix it up. I will do a lot of running, biking, Insanity, T25, and P90X3 or whatever Beachbody workout I feel like popping in.
  • Last summer I decided to switch it up with some Bodybeast and I loved how my body reacted to it, so now I am trying to do this for about 3 -4 weeks then I am going to jump into more cardio training to prepare for my races.

As of now April 1, 2014 I have started the Build phase and will post back any new thoughts I have on the workout. Overall the workout is legit since I have done it in 2-3 week sessions over the last year! You are going to get worked and you are going to get sore. If you want to build muscle, get strong, and build those show muscles then the BEAST is for you!

Does It Really Work?

  • I am working on a new section on the blog… so stand by, but to be honest any program works if you do one simple thing! Follow it, stick with it, and work hard! Simple as that!
  • I took a break from this workout because I was doing a lot of training for my tri, 5k mud races, and Spartan races, but I love the strength and definition it added.
  • You are getting a great workout plan here! Want it to work?
  1. Pick the lean or bulk schedule
  2. Have your diet in check and food ready to go
  3. Write down all you do and increase your weights every workout even if it is only a few pounds.
  4. Report back to me in 90 days and lets talk!!! BEAST UP!

Is Body Beast For Women and/or Beginners?

  • Yes of course! I get a lot of females asking if the beast is OK for them or they are worried they might bulk up too much. The truth is bulking up for a woman is hard. Very possible, but you really gotta push, get that diet in check and work hard! All I can say is GO HERE and look at the before and after pictures of the woman and you will see they are not super huge, but more defined, toned, and lean.
  • As for beginners this is a GREAT WORKOUT! I wish I had this when I started. You get a great foundation of knowledge or great techniques and systems in bodybuilding. You also get the person doing the modified moves with limited equipment which a lot of beginners may need.
    • Overall yes it is for you! Push play, follow the videos, eat right, stay on track and you will be amazed at your transformation!

Batman Power Wheels

Hey so we had another power wheels adventure. My 4 year old kept telling me he wanted a Batman Power Wheels for his birthday, so I needed to figure out how to make that happen!

I had some ideas so I hit up Ebay to look for some Batman emblems, spray paint, a grappling hook of course, and anything else Batman related I could find!

I found a used Kawasaki Brute Force Powerwheel on Craigslist for $100 “Brand New $399” It was beat up pretty good… some nice holes in the back wheels from burnt outs, slides and all that awesome stuff you are supposed to do with these ๐Ÿ˜‰

Quick 360 Video – Details Below

Fixing The Holes In The Back Wheels

  • Need to take a better picture, but you can see the tread I added right in the middle.

Need to take a better picture, but you can see the tread I added right in the middle.

I needed a solution for the holes in the wheels. I just bought a new treadmill “Nordic Track x9i” <<< awesome by the way. Got a nice deal on a damaged boxed one on Ebay. They had re-boxed it for shipping and had wrapped the bottom in something, which turned out to be cut strips of treading from some other treadmill. It was perfect!! I trimmed them up a bit more and cut to size.

    • Cleaned the wheels…”I only did the back ones…. should have cleaned the front because it was tough to get the paint to cover well.
    • I used a mixture of Glue Gun and Epoxy to stick the tracks on… I also drilled in some metal screws where the tread met and other random spots.
    • He took it out over the weekend “was super wet and muddy” and it honestly handled great!

Prepping The Body

  • Sticker Removal

    Sticker Removal

Thank God for heat guns! There were always times I needed one, so what better time to buy one name! Ebay to the rescue again! This helped me peel the stickers right off! You definitely have to be careful not to hold it in one place for too long or you just melt the sticker or your finger ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • I wiped down the body best I could with some windex and paper towels which seemed to work fine.
  • I did a light sanding and taped up all the original black.

Painting The Powerwheel

  • Well at least it was the coldest week of the year when I did all this LOL! I had actually bought this sweet 40,000 BTU Propane Heater to use in my Garage Gym which works awesome so that helped, but when it came to painting the whole thing it ran out of propane about an hour in. Not a huge deal, but not the best to paint when its 20 degrees!
  • I decided to add all the Batman emblems to the original plastic since I figured it would stick better. I know it would be tough to tape them and paint, but it worked out fine. I used that heat gun big time to hit up the body and the emblems before sticking them on.
  • I used Krylon Fusion spray paint made for painting plastics. The flat black went on great and finished nicely…. the gloss yellow took a few coats and like I said earlier you will want to clean those wheels off. The front ones were a pain and I had to do a lot of coats. I probably was not the most patient either ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • I even added a toy grappling hook on the back, but didn’t take a picture of it!

Before & After Pictures

I wanted to use the Flat Black and the Gloss yellow, which I think came out pr

My Review Of Yancy Camp

YancyWell if you have been around here for awhile you know that I love me a good old obstacle race! Of course I am no “elite racer”, but for a 37 year old father of 3 I feel I do pretty well!

ALSO: I updated this info down below as of 3/22/2016 so scroll down to get straight to the point!

Another UPDATE: Right now Yancy is offering the first month of YANCY CAMP FREE. Why wouldn’t you sign up! Click Here!

I am now training for the Tri State Spartan Beast in April at Mt Creek. I did my first beast last year https://fitdadchris.com/tri-state-spartan-beast-results-2015/ Pretty awesome!

I also did a post on training for a 5k Obstacle Race which did get some good feedback…. https://fitdadchris.com/5k-obstacle-race-training/

Speaking of training, my buddy Mike who I met at last years Spartan Beast “always good peeps at races” told me about Yancy Camp.ย  At first I thought it was some sort of camp you went to lol, but then found out it was an actually dude! Yancy! I guess you could go physically and meet up with Yancy, but who has time for that ๐Ÿ˜‰

So anyways I signed up today for the training program attached to Glen Racs: Click here and select Glen…

I always tell people that having a plan is essential to getting better at anything. So that is part of the reason I signed up for the program.ย  I literally just signed up for it today 1/21/2016 so I have not done the training, but of course looking it over I am sure gonna get a bit beat up, but in a good way ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am going to update this over the next few weeks as I do the workouts, but in a nutshell:

What Is Yancy Camp?

  • OCR “Obstacle Course Racing” training for all fitness levels
  • Weekly updated workouts! 3 workouts being performed by the athlete you chose. For me that would be Glen
    • Yancy trains all these athletes so you are getting that workout!
  • Insight to how their training will change for different events.

How Does It Work?

  • yancy-camp-glen

Click On Image For Larger View

You login click on your athlete and the workouts are there. Check the image to the right. I had to blur out the workouts, but that is the basics of it!

That is the overall idea of it! I am looking forward to getting into it. Just from looking over the workouts I can tell these are going to make a huge difference in my performance.

There are times I think I know what I am doing or think I have a good grasp on whatย  I need then I see this and I am like oh man, this is gonna be tough, but I know what the end results will be!

  • For $29 a month you are not going to find this type of training anywhere else, not to mention it is being updated constantly.

Oh and Yancy is awesome. I messaged him on Facebook, he got back to me and I even had a 20 minute call with him today! That is pretty good customer service!

Aroo!!

Stay tuned for more….

Update 3/22/2016

  • So after finally setting up a plan to actually follow the workouts I have to say this… I KNOW NO WHY THIS ATHLETES THAT YANCY TRAINS DO SO WELL!!
  • These workouts are killer and to be honest I have yet to do one all the way through, but with that said I am feel like I have so much more in the tank so to speak already.
    • Why haven’t I finished one all the way? Truth is these are longgg workouts. I am up at 5AM to get my workouts in, so a lot of times I just simply run out of time, but sometimes I wonder if I truly would get through them!

A turning point?

  • I really do feel that putting these workouts into the mix is going to be a turning point for me. I feel like I will be in the best shape I have ever been in for a race.
    • Part of the reason is my workouts never went this long and to truly perform in a long race, well you need to train longer as well as incorporate what Yancy does in the workouts.
    • I am really curious to see how I do this year at the Tri State Spartan Beast! Stay tuned

My Advice To You:

  • If you have been looking for something to give you an edge with your races then this is for you.
  • If you get bored and want something new then this is for you. Yancy releases about 3 new workouts every week that these OCR athletes are doing
  • If you have not done workouts like this, then take it easy. I wanted to jump right in and start busting them out like they are layed out, but I had to listen to my buddy. If you are really sore, don’t risk injury, start with maybe 2 of these a week or even 1 depending where your fitness level is.
    • If you can only get through half the workout, then that is fine. Just know that if you stick with them you are going to see big improvements.
  • Yancy also has a lot of bonus workouts in there and tips to help give you an edge. Little things like…. running with a hand gripper and performing reps in each hand while you run, since grip strength is so important it makes total sense. The next race you are at and you have to go from running to monkey bars you will thank him ๐Ÿ˜‰

Feel free to ask any questions below and I will try my best to answer them. Also know that Yancy is pretty available on Facebook and has given me amazing info and insight when I ask for it.

If you like this post and found it helpful I would appreciate it hugely that you sign up via THIS LINK HERE and join the Yancy Camp family!

My Timex Ironman Triathlon Shock Watch Is Not Beeping & A Brief Review

Timex-Shock-Ironman-On-WristHey folks, quick post and video on my Timex Shock watch! I am doing a new review soon on my new Garmin GPS watch so stay tuned. I wanted to do this because I ran into an issue the other night with setting the alarm! I could not get this watch to beep!! I could see the screen flashing, but no beep!

Timex Shock / G-Shock Beeping Fixes

Here was my main issue and fix, but there are some basic ones below!

So awhile back I had the battery changed with a few other watches I own at the jewelers.ย  After searching online a bit I saw a handful of people saying that the case plat on the back of the watch was on backwards! So I unscrewed that puppy and flipped it around and BINGO!!! BEEP BEEP…. you can see what I mean in the first part of the video.

So a pretty simple fix that I hope will help you save some time.

How to turn the beeping on and off like normal if your back plate is on correctly ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • OK so I know there is the option to turn the chime and the beep on and off… both mine were set to off so that was a good start!
    • I turned them both to on…. Now turning Beep to ON just makes the watch beep every time you press a button, but even that did not solve my problem!
    • Chime when set to on will beep a few times on the hour every hour so if you want to turn the chime off on your timex shock watch then set that to off!
    • To do that basically you are going to have to push on the SET button when you are looking at the time then scroll through the options. “Watch the 3 minute 15 second mark on the video to see that in action

Hammer and Chisel Workout – Review – Equipment – Results

Got your hammer? Chisel? Canvas? Ready, set, go….

I have done Body Beast with Sagi, but never did much with Autumn, but I liked what I saw with the new Hammer & Chisel workout program, so I had to give it a shot.

Quick Links To Info Section:Click To Go Direct To Section

First question I get asked with any workout?

What Equipment Do I Need?

Simple Question: Do you want good results or the best results?

Equipment for Best Results:

Equipment for Good Results:

  • Exercise Ball
  • Workout Resistance Bands
  • Pull Up Door Attachment For Resistance Bands

Optional Stuff: “Some not really optional… I am just saying…”

  • Pen Paper to write things down on your Hammer & Chisel Workout Sheets
  • Towel for sweat
  • Water bottle… “again not really optional” lol

Also before I go further let me say this… equipment wise no matter what you are using you will get results! There will just come a point when opting for the “best equipment options” is going to give you your greatest gains.

My Personal Review of The Masters Hammer & Chisel

Hey if you are looking for “Test Group” results just go to the main website. They have all the people who did the workout with their awesome results there…

Most of my reviews are living and breathing meaning I will come back and post updates as I do the specific workouts while they are fresh in my head or take notes to add later.

Safety Videos:

  • Watch the safety video if you are new to working out or just not sure of your form. I love workouts that have these because sometimes I like to just freshen up on proper form and make sure I avoid injury.
  • So if you are one of those people that are intimidated by working out because you have no idea what a bent over row is then watch these videos and learn the moves. Don’t worry if it takes a few tries. Learning the proper form will keep you in the game and not on the sidelines with injury!
Total-Body-Hammer

Example Of The Total Body Workout

Total Body Hammer Workout

  • So since the workout came in the mail late in the week I decided to go for the Total Body workout.
  • It was a good workout and the sweat was really dripping by the 2nd part of the 1st round.
  • Basically as you can see from the picture to the right >>>> they have you doing 3 rounds, each round consisting of 3 moves each for 10 – 8 – 6 reps, then 10 – 8- 6 reps, then a break and onto the next round.
  • I stuck with the same weight which they tell you to as well.
  • I always like to go a little lighter any time I am trying a workout just to be safe and you should too. No sense it really pushing yourself the first time especially if you are new to working out or still learning proper form.
  • For myself any new workout I do that is set up in a different way is always fun for me. Of course I have done all these exercise before, but never in the way they have them here so it was a great workout.
  • I sweated, I got pumped, and I felt great.

I skipped through a handful of the other workouts just to get a quick preview and they really look awesome! Stay tuned as I update this review as I do each workout. Looking forward to the 10 minute ab one.

>>>Don’t Forget Those 3 FREE Bonus Gifts! Bonus Gifts? Huh? Click HERE!<<<

Conclusion So Far:

Just remember if you focus, eat right, and follow this workout “or most any other workout” you will get results you just need to stick with it. Don’t expect results in a week or two. Sure you will feel sore the first week, maybe even the second, but I promise you that you will start to feel stronger and more in shape going into that 3rd week, then you will start seeing & feeling some changes. It does take time, but stick with it and ask questions here. I will help the best I can!

Rickson Gracie – History, Training, & Diet

Rickson-gracie-bjj

Over the years I have become a big fan of MMA, BJJ, and the UFC which really brought this all to the beast it is today. I was into it more many years ago, and something I would love to actually get involved with sometime in the future.

I had always heard the Gracie name so I looked into the family. I admired Ricksons’s outlook on life, working out and diet, so figured I would put that info out here.

Rickson Gracie was born in November 1958, Brazil. He is an 8th degree black and red Gracie Jiu Jitsu, a well known form of Jiu Jitsu created by the Gracie family and inherited by the Gracie family. It is a form of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu first developed by Helio and Carlos Gracie who are well known for their contribution into the modern BJJ. Rickson Gracie started his Jiu Jitsu training when he was very young. He started competing in the age of six and by 15 he was teaching it to other people. By the age of 20, Gracie won his first ever victory against the famed Rei Zulu, a 230 pound brawler from Brazil. This earned him international fame which made him become as the top most recognized freestyle fighter.

Gracie has now retired from professional Jiu Jitsu and MMA but he still contributed his experience and knowledge to young people who want to learn Jiu Jitsu. He gives away many seminars on Jiu Jitsu trying to live his fatherโ€™s legacy. He believes that Jiu Jitsu is not a tool to fight, but it is a social tool that gives confidence to those who are physically weak and want to protect themselves. He teaches people Jiu Jitsu so they can defend themselves against any form of violence.

Throughout his career, Gracie has appeared in 11 fights and has won them all. He has also been a part of a very well known documentary by Robert Goodman. The documentary followed the life of Rickson and two other popular fighters who prepared for Tokyoโ€™s Vale Tudo in 1995. Rickson Gracie has also taken cameo roles in Hollywood movies. His most noted appearance was in โ€˜The Incredible Hulkโ€™ by Marvel where he played the instructor of Bruce Banner.

Wondered About Belts In BJJ?
Watch Very Interesting!

The Rickson Gracie Workout and Diet Routine

  • Rickson has always believed in two kinds of training: one he uses to maintain his physical form and one is to prepare him for his fights. When he is preparing for a fight, he increases the intensity of his workouts by two folds and extends his rest periods so he can recover fully and give his max performance.
  • Rickson Gracie rarely lift weights. He only lift weights when he is preparing for a fight. But most of his workout is based on a very intense full body routine. His workout is based on the popular MMA workout which not only teaches one to fight, but it also teaches one to balance his/her life through all aspects.

The key secret behind his training is his diet. Rickson doesnโ€™t follow a diet where he has to restrict food or eat specific stuff. He only follows the rules of digestion so he can avoid fermentation, a process that can cause digestion to produce unwanted results and cause the body to release acidic reactions that destroys the nutrition.
He has set up a group of foods he consumes carefully. Here is what Rickson Gracie follows to keep himself maintained.

The Strict Rules of Gracie Diet

Food groups

  • Group 1 โ€“ Vegetables, fats and proteins (oils, nuts, meat, fish and vegetables)
  • Group 2 โ€“ Carbs (Carbohydrates) (pasta, rice, bread, grains)
  • Group 3 โ€“ Sweet fruits and fresh cheese. Sugars and artificial sweeteners
  • Group 4 โ€“ Acidic fruits like citrus and berries. Sour dairy products like yogurt
  • Group 5 โ€“ Sweet dairy products.

According to Gracie, you must be very careful when eating two things from a different pool of foods. He shows some examples below:

  • Anything from group 1 can be combined with group 2 and eaten together. You can only pick one thing from each group.
  • Group 3 can also be combined with Group 2, but you cannot eat foods from 3 groups together. So you cannot combine group 1 with 2 and 3.
  • Group 2 can never be combined with anything from the same group. But they can be combined with group 1 and 3.
  • Group 4 cannot combine with each other or any other group from the list. They must always be eaten without combination.
  • Group 5 can combine with any group from the list except Group 1.

Now for example, if you are eating a Banana, you canโ€™t eat it with bread. So if you are eating a banana, you cannot eat bread at all.

So there you have it! Pretty interesting dude! I have actually seen a handful of MMA guys follow this diet pretty closely and they have had great results!

Hope you enjoyed. Leave a comment or a question below.

  • Improve your digestion and regularity.Fiber and pro/pre biotics help you “get regular” so you eliminate toxins built up in your digestive system.

Why I Drink Shakeology

The truth is you don’t care why I drink it, you care about what it will do for you. It is not a magic shake, but it is unique. If you drink your shakeology and are eating fast food and other junk then do not expect to feel much different.

If you are willing to replace one meal a day with Shakeology and cut out the other junk and even get on some sort of workout schedule you will lose weight and feel better.

Simply swapping out one meal a day will help you lose weight as well since you will most likely be in a calorie deficit.

What Is A Calorie Deficit?

  • At the end of the day losing or gaining weight is simple math. It all comes down to calorie deficit. This is why programs like weight watchers and other point type systems work. If you can keep your calories at a certain number and create the “deficit” you will lose weight.
  • So for example if you burn 2,000 calories a day and only eat 1,500 calories you have created a deficit of 500 calories. This deficit causes your body to use non-food sources for energy like body fat which creates weight loss. Ta da!
  • You may have heard that 3,500 calories is equal to about a pound of fat. Some agree, some disagree. I think it is a good ballpark to work with and if you look at that number then you would need a 500 calorie deficit everyday for a week to lose 1 lb of fat. Now that is real fat, not water weight, meal weight, or a big #2 weight ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • Losing about 1-2lbs of fat a week is pretty healthy and something you should strive for if you are looking to really drop the weight.

How Does Shakeology Fit Into All Of These?

Again simple math…

  • Lets do this…. this can really vary, but let us look at an average lunch for most people going out to eat on lunch break.
  • Sandwich 350 – 500 Calories
  • Beverage.. soda, juice, coffee? 12 oz -20oz Can be anywhere from 140 – 400 calories “Diet drink? Ugh Please don’t, it is so bad for you!”
  • Chips? Cookie? 150-300 Calories
  • Again you can see how this varies, but on the low end you are looking at 640 calories and at the high end 1200 calories.
  • Shakeology? “Using Chocolate” By Itself 160 calories… Add 1 banana and 1 tbsp peanut butter it brings the total to 360 calories for your new healthy lunch!

So now you are looking at 360 calories vs 640-1200 calories. Not only are you cutting out wasted calories, but you are getting a power packed super food shake that will give you energy and leave you feeling ready to go, not ready for a nap.

So simply replacing that lunch everyday with Shakeology is going to help you lose weight, feel great, and get the nutrients your body needs.

With workouts like Chalene Extreme & Turbo Fire under her belt results are sure to come if you follow her.

chalene-piyo-challenge

Not only in her workouts, but in life. She is a great life coach and motivational speaker who is changing lives physically and mentally!

Her new workout PiYo which means Pilates & Yoga is here and I was able to start some of it last week!

My First Taste Of PiYo

  • I was not planning on doing the workout until August, but with the box open I had to give it a try. Since it was a long July 4th holiday weekend my wife and I decided to do the Upper & Lower the same day.

Quick Note: There Is A Modifier!

  • In the workouts there is one person who does a modified version of the exercises… “shh… my wife watched her a lot” ;-)… That is totally fine and gladly welcomed. There is nothing worse than trying to perform and exercise and not being able to do it. The modifier helps you work your way up to the full move!

Define: Upper Body “20 Minutes”

  • I have honestly never really done a workout with Chalene Johson and I loved her energy! For me the workout was not that tough…. now hear me out! A year ago it would have really whooped me, but since I have gotten some Yoga under my belt over the last year I felt better doing the moves. I got a workout that is for sure! My wife on the other hand had some struggles with using her core and the stability. She enjoyed it a lot and was dripping! It was short to the point and felt like a solid workout was had… but remember which jumped into lower body after this lol. Chalene loves those Tricep pushups! Ha!

Define: Lower Body “25 Minutes”

  • Again pretty much the same as above. I felt way more comfortable, but still worked me. My wife was def struggling again, but really enjoyed the flow and the moves. At 25 minutes it goes quick, but you are getting a very thorough workout.

Core

  • Phew… that was a fun one! I was doing moves I have never done before and my core was crying… in a good way though!
  • I was actually surprised at how well I was able to keep up, but there was a few times I had to just drop and sit down especially with those piyo planks!
  • Looking to get a strong and tight core? This is the workout for you!

Results & Feedback Of Pi-Yo So Far?

  • Well as I said we have only done the 2 workouts so far and I prob will not start doing them more consistently till August. I will say this! These workouts for my training right now are the perfect supplement. Just enough to loosen me up, help my core/balance, and just give me that extra flexibility that I lack. I will update as I go.
  • As for my wife she loves it because she can feel it working and after having 3 kids… youngest being “6 months” she really wanted something to work her core and this definitely covers that! Not to mention the workouts range from 20 minutes to 454 minutes so she can fit them in.

So What Is In PiYo?

  • PiYo is stretch, strength, and flexibility all rolled into one!
  • This is for people who just feel like Yoga and Pilates is not the right fit for them.
  • It is for people who want more flexibility training, but want to get more out of it.
  • You are going to get the cardio, you are going to get the strength, but as you do it you are getting far more flexible.

Here is Chalene doing her thing! I am looking forward to this one!

The Classic Naked Nutrition Recipe

I am real happy with the products from Naked Nutrition, so I asked them to give me a yummy recipe and they came back with what they call “The Classic”

This is close to what my daily morning shake is, but wow add the coco powder, vanilla, ad BOO YA!! Delish! Anyways…. here ya go! Try it out and leave a comment below.

powdered pb chocolate banana shakeNaked Whey comes from grass fed cows from dairy farms in Northern California. The minimal processing results in a non-denatured protein that helps to reduce hunger and promotes lean muscle growth. The whey is so good by itself, that the only ingredient is that: whey protein.

Powdered peanut butter might seem like a fad at first, but itโ€™s so much more than that. In order to reach the powdered state, most of the fat and oils have been pressed out of the peanuts. And, with that, most of the calories have been removed as well. Naked PB has almost 75% less calories than regular peanut butter per serving and over 90% less fat, with 6 grams of protein per serving. Psst… I just did a review on their Naked PB here… check it out!

Hereโ€™s a great recipe that combines a number of our favorite flavors.
Chocolate, peanut and banana is a time-tested perfect combination. This recipe has it all, all natural whey protein creaminess and sweetness. With only 7 ingredients, this shake is perfect for breakfast when youโ€™re busy and in need of a morning pick-me-up.

WARNING– this recipe calls for overripe bananas, which will add sweetness to your shake this may cause you to curb those chocolate muffin cravings in the morning.

2 large overripe bananas, peeled, sliced and frozen
1 cup milk (or more to thin as desired)
1 scoop Naked PB powdered peanut butter
1 scoop Naked Whey protein powder (http://nkdnutrition.com/products/grass-fed-whey-protein-powder)
2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Ice (as needed)

Add all ingredients to a blender and process until thoroughly combined and serve immediately. Enjoy for breakfast or after a vigorous workout to help with muscle recovery and to promote muscle growth.

What are you waiting for? Go make one of these and let me know what you think!

Powdered Peanut Butter

Naked PB Peanut Butter PowderOh my goodness! For the longest time I have wanted to try powered peanut butter, but it was one of those things I just never got around to. Now trust me! I eat my fair share of peanut butter! In fact I eat peanut butter pretty much everyday! I use them in my shakes when I make them which usually entails me scooping a bit extra to eat straight ๐Ÿ˜‰ and maybe a scoop or two at other times.

Not the worst thing in the world right? I also eat organic peanut butter. The only thing is in it is PB. No extra sugars oils etc…..

In fact…. side story here. When I got my vitamix blender I really wanted to try and make my own peanut butter since that monster of a blender can actually blend peanuts into butter! Pretty awesome! So I knew we had a glass jar of peanuts in the cabinet and I gave it a go! It made amazing, creamy peanut butter! So I am thinking cool, straight butter from real peanuts. Then I looked at the ingredients on the bottle and holy moly, the amount of “extra stuff” in there was insane! Not natural at all.

OK back to the powdered stuff! I was lucky enough to get a Ginormous tub of Naked PB from Naked Nutrition who has an awesome protein shake recipe here on our site….

Ha so the first thing I did was take a spoonful of the powdered and gobble it down! Don’t do that… well unless you have a glass of milk handy lol. It is yummy, but straight spoon of powder to the mouth is pretty tough!

I have been using it in my morning Shakeology shake, and my nightly protein snack. It is really really good!! Even my kids like it! I have 3 boys under 6. I first snuck it in there milk and they said “Dad whoa what is this? It’s yummy!” my 3 year old said, “me LOVE it!” lol… kids gotta love em.

So here is why I think this is a great product.

Naked Powder PB IngredientsWhat is so special about powdered pb?

  1. I did not realize it, but since the peanuts are pressed a good amount of the oils and fat are removed to give you more protein per serving. <<< I like this because I might over indulge in my peanut-butter obsession so by using this in my shakes I am lowering the fat intake and actually increasing the protein!
  2. Not all PB powders, but the Naked Nutrition one is made from??? well you guessed it… PEANUTS and only PEANUTS!
  3. 50 calories ,ย  1.5 grams fat, 6 grams of protein per serving. Serving = 2 Tbsp
  4. When you look at regular peanut butter “depends on brand” you are looking at about 210 calories, 16 grams fat, and 6-8 grams protein. Pretty significant difference in calories & fat!

So again there is nothing wrong with Peanut Butter whatsoever, but if you have been looking to cut back on your reg PB Fix then trying powdered PB is worth a shot!

Naked PB has 76 servings for around $22 a tub

Depending on what brand of reg PB you get you might be looking at around $5-7 “also depends if organic” etc… and about 12-14 servings… so in the long run you can save a few bucks with a big tub of powdered PB.

So that is my 2 cents on powdered PB. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

You can learn more about the Naked brand here http://nkdnutrition.com/products/powdered-peanut-butter

Stay tuned for reviews on there protein powders as well. I grabbed a sweet sample box and need to drink em up!
